July 19, 2016 (WASHINGTON) – This statement is delivered on behalf of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) by Co-Chairs George Ingram, Carolyn Miles, and Connie Veillette

The Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) is pleased to see the news that President Obama has signed the Foreign Aid Transparency and Accountability Act (H.R. 3766) into law. The bill was recently passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, and we are encouraged to see the President move swiftly to enact this important legislation.

We would once again like to extend our deepest thanks to the bill sponsors, Reps. Ted Poe (R-TX) and Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), for all of their efforts over the years to get this legislation to the finish line.

This bill institutionalizes the important gains that have been made on increasing aid transparency and improving monitoring and evaluation practices, and will help to ensure that this progress is built upon when a new Administration and Congress are sworn in. Now that the bill has been enacted, we hope to see all U.S. agencies involved in foreign assistance move to fully implement the provisions.

For more detailed information on how this bill strengthens U.S. foreign assistance, see MFAN’s recent statement here.
