February 27, 2025 (WASHINGTON) – The Administration’s decision yesterday to terminate 10,000 State Department and USAID contracts and grants – just 30 days into what was supposed to be a 90-day review process – is an unprecedented move that will come with a heavy price tag for the lives of millions globally and America’s influence and strength.
At a time of increasing global instability and mounting threats to U.S. security and economic interests, ending most international assistance programs – without a thorough review – is irresponsible and reckless. Alongside a strong military and diplomacy, these programs are essential tools of American leadership. Their termination must be reversed, and both the Administration and Congress must prioritize strengthening—not dismantling—these critical investments. The United States cannot afford to throw away vital tools of international influence and power.
