September 20, 2018 (WASHINGTON) – This statement is delivered on behalf of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) by Co-Chairs George Ingram, Lester Munson and Tessie San Martin.
The Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network is pleased to welcome Global Innovation Fund to the coalition. Global Innovation Fund (GIF) is a ground-breaking organization that invests in social projects in more than 30 countries aimed at improving the lives of millions of people in the developing world.
GIF’s leadership has demonstrated a strong commitment to effective development interventions. Evidence is at the heart of GIF’s approach to investment; taking well-informed risks in pursuit of high social benefits and incorporating learning into each project.
Global Innovation Fund’s CEO Dr. Alix Peterson Zwane will join MFAN’s Executive Committee. Dr. Zwane has 20 years of experience advancing the agenda of evidence-based aid and international development as an investor and social entrepreneur. Previously, Dr. Zwane was Executive Director at Evidence Action, a non-profit that develops service delivery models to scale evidence-based programs. She also launched Evidence Action Beta, an incubator for innovations in development, and has worked with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Google.org to advocate for evidence-based philanthropy and develop models for outcome-based grant making.
MFAN looks forward to working with GIF to ensure accountable U.S. foreign assistance, strengthen pro-poor financing for development, and guide strategic transitions from aid.
