May 10, 2024 (WASHINGTON) - Yesterday on Capitol Hill, MFAN co-hosted with InterAction and the bipartisan Congressional Caucus for Effective Foreign Assistance, co-chaired by Congresswoman Young Kim (R-CA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA), a congressional staff briefing on the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.
As activity ramps up on Capitol Hill to reauthorize the BUILD Act of 2018, which created the DFC in 2018, this timely discussion focused on the importance of private sector-led investment in development and what’s needed to boost the DFC's impact in the years ahead. The panel, which featured – Julie Bulgrin, Managing Director, Congressional Affairs, DFC, Robert Mosbacher Jr., Former President & CEO of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), George Ingram, Senior Fellow, Brookings, Porter DeLaney, Founding Partner, KyleHouse Group, Jenny Marron, Senior Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, InterAction and Tod Preston, MFAN Executive Director–discussed the bipartisan history behind the creation of the agency, the many (and sometimes competing) demands on the DFC, and issues such as the agency’s equity authority, risk appetite, and development mandate.
The event follows the release earlier this year of MFAN's key recommendations for enhancing the Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development (BUILD) Act.
